All Rights Reserved. Madagascar 3, when the jungle comes to the red carpet The Central Park Zoo has come to the Festival de Cannes. Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Gloria the Hippo and Melman the Giraffe present Madagascar 3, Europe’s Most Wanted in the Out of Competition selection. Madagascar 3 is the 5th DreamWorks film to be presented at Cannes following Shrek and Over the Hedge. The directors of the first two films, Eric Darnell and Tom McGrath are joined by Conrad Vernon as they follow the European adventures of the 4 wildest animals from Central Park. In our first meeting with them, they escaped from the New York City zoo and ended up on a distant island. In Madagascar 2, they left this island and made their way to Africa. Now in Madagascar 3 Europe’s Most Wanted, as they try to return to New York, they wind up in… Monte Carlo. With Animal Control on their tails, they find the perfect hide-out, a travelling circus. Darnell and McGrath are working together for the third time, now joined by Vernon, but they have some other shared history; they were all educated at the same prestigious Cal Arts institute. However, when they began working, it was on very different projects, ranging from Antz for Darnell to How the Grinch Stole Christmas for McGrath, while Vernon worked on Sinbad. Following the success of the first animated film, they directed related projects such as Merry Madagascar and The Penguins of Madagascar television series to follow the adventures of our four friends before their eventual return to their Central Park zoo. Madagascar 3, Europe’s Most Wanted will be shown in 3D in the Grand Théâtre Lumière on Friday 18 May at noon and 7.30 pm.
